How to make a CHEAP Animation Table by MonochromeAgent How to make a CHEAP Animation Table by MonochromeAgent
This is what I use to animate, traditionally!
You can make your own!
it's cheap, easy, fast, and it's small and convinient, so you can work just about anywhere!
I'm always drawing or wanting to animate something, so this is what I use while I'm on the go.
I just got the light box, I havent used it yet, and I wont be taking it with me on the go. in it's place I'll take something cheap. a flashlight, or maybe one of those cheap push-click night-lights
-
HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED!:

- Clear Plastic clipboard (Office Depot) $8
- OR Plexiglass (Home Depot). $?? it's not too much.

- Wooden ruler (Wal-mart, anywhere) $.97
(make sure it has the three binder-ring holes!)

- Wooden Dowel (hobby-Lobby, Joaans) (just a wooden stick you can cut.) $? mine was lying around the house.

- Light Box (Joaans) $15 (my mother used a coupon and got it for $8!)

MAKE YOUR OWN LIGHT BOX!:
If you can't find one, here's an idea:
Get a clear plastic storage bin, your choice of size. turn it upside down and put white christmas lights beneath it.
Or you can buy one of those cheap push-nightlights; [link]
or some other kind of light! Google up some other ideas!

WHY A LIGHTBOX?
This lets you see your previous "Frames" (drawing). animation is a series of pictures, but each picture is slightly edited. and once played, it gives the look of motion!
light boxes make it easier to see and trace your previous frame for more accurate animation, with less "jiggly", "nudgey" problems. Look at the picture at the top right, you see what I mean?

Assembly

Glue the wooden Ruler to the BACK of the Clear Plastic Clipboard to avoid the clip. Make sure you scoot the ruler down a bit further down to the edge, that way the bolts in the clipboard holding the clip part on wont get in the way.

Plexiglass; just glue it.

Cut the dowel (wooden stick) to the desired length (not too short! these are the pegs that will keep your papers stacked perfectly and on the clip-board!

put a dot of glue in each of the holes. just a tiny bit, Quickly! Hot-Glue Dries fast!

Shove the dowel into the hols of the ruler; this may require sanding if the dowel is too large. I just forced mine in.

AND YOUR DONE!

PRE-PUNCHED PAPER!? LET ALONE SOME THAT WOULD FIT THIS HOME-MADE THING? GOOD LUCK FINDING THAT! HERE'S HOW TO DO IT PERFECTLY YOURSELF, HASSLE FREE!
Youre going to need paper punched with holes that align perfectly with those pegs! this is why we used a RULER! Because the holes in a ruler are meant for it to go into a 3-ring binder!
and there are hole punches that punch a set of 3 holes. perfectly aligned for BINDERS!! PERFECT FIT!
I have a teacher who has a bunch of paper with punched holes; look at an office supply store to find a 3-hole punch thing if you don't have acess to one!

Its not the best. but, hey, it works for me. I Like to lug my stuff around at school, and with all these delinquents about, Im not about to risk anything NICE being stolen, lost or broken! this is all small enough to fit in my art briefcase; the black case in the photo. I don't carry the light box around. I'd use a flashlight or some other tiny easy to carry kind of light instead. I'm notorious for running from class to class, I cant be weighed down by a bunch of boxes and bags. I want the smallest bag and the quickest clean-up possible. that way I can get out before I gt trampled in the halls.

I use a brand called ARTOGRAPH, it wasn't more then 20 dollars... You can't turn it but it came with a 3 way hole puncher peg, so you can just punch paper and freely put it in the holes. Its what I use in my animation class... this seems handy pretty similar to what we use so i guess anyone who has any doubt can read the comments here... man... you're a genius.

An animation class you say?
Wow that's awesome!
I just made something simple, just because I wanted it then and there and didnt feel like shopping around for one.
and that way if it got lost.broken/stolen/damaged at school, I wouldnt have to worry about having to replace it as much.

Dont hate yourself, you fool! U8< jk, jk.
It is really easy. I saw something similar on google. I did a few different things though; improvised to use things I already had lying about.
